About the Wind Symphony

THE CROYDON WIND SYMPHONY began in 1971 as the Croydon Concert Band. It was founded by Eric Page, who was the bandmaster of the Croydon Brass Band, and taught music at Croydon High School. He wanted a band for his students to graduate to after high school.

The Croydon Wind Symphony boasts a regular membership of more than forty musicians although we’re always looking for more. We perform regularly in the community through our own concert series and we occasionally compete in State and National Championships. The Band won the Victorian B Grade State Championship in 2000, 2002 and 2017 and was runner up at the Australian National Band Championships in 2018.

The band performs annually at the Maroondah Carols by Candlelight for an audience of more than 5000 and has worked in the past with artists such as Barry Crocker, Judi Connelli, Colleen Hewitt, Tony Barber and Darrel Cotton.

The band rehearses every Wednesday from 8.00pm to 10.00pm in Keystone Hall, Civic Square, Croydon and maintains a healthy performance schedule.

He joined the Croydon Wind Symphony over twenty years ago and has been involved in every aspect of the band as a musician, committee member, band manager and since 2014, Musical Director. He has wide ranging experience in community music organisations and is a former President of the Victorian Bands' League and Secretary of the Australian Band and Orchestra Director’s Association.

In more recent years David has been regularly involved with the Croydon Parish Players as a production musician, Assistant Musical Director (The Sound of Music) and Musical Director (Fiddler on the Roof, Anything Goes).
